About Zoshigaya Kodomo Station

A new space for children and families opens on 3 June 2017 in Zoshigaya, Toshima-city.

Zoshigaya Kodomo Station runs a rich and exciting program of art and culture events for children and families. They provide engaging, fun and an informal space for families to enjoy together. Children and adults can experience a diverse range of artist-led workshops. Our programs are initiatives to encourage people of all nations, abilities and areas of interest to engage with art, music, dance and play.

Sing and Voice Play Workshop

Sing and voice play workshop led by singer-songwriter Arisa Yokote. We will make a song by connect simple words with the artist playing the ukulele. Sometimes we also challenge overseas songs. When both children and adults play with their voices, it becomes a song before you know it!

A toy band playing with Pechika!

Want to make a toy instrument out of familiar materials? Want to play different toy instruments? Want to compose a song to a guitar melody?
Let’s all enjoy the strange sounds and unexpected songs that are created while playing.
Both repeaters and first-timers are welcome. If you want to join a toy band, stop here!

Percussion Workshop

Percussion workshop led by percussionist Mari Sekine. We enjoy the sounds and rhythms by touching various musical instruments such as African drums with animal skins and interesting musical instruments that can be used as sound effects. What kind of music would it be if everyone play the drums? Let’s feel the sound of everyone who gathered!

Step! Crap! Celtic Music with Annie

Celtic Irish music played with accordions, tin whistles, and stringed bouzoukis.
Children and adults form a circle and let the rhythm and melody entrust your body.
Relax and listen, or try dancing with your parent and child holding hands…
Why don’t you bathe your body in the cheerful music born from your life?

Dance Workshop ~Play with body~

Dance workshop led by contemporary dancer Yu Kitagawa. This dance workshop will use a lot of body sensations. Touch, see, hear, feel … Let’s enjoy feeling your own body and the body of the other person while interacting with parents and children. You may find ideas to play at home!

Dance Workshop ~Exploration with body~

What kind of play should we start using our bodies?
Try stretching your body larger than an adult, or shrinking your body smaller than a baby.
Even if you can’t do it alone, if you do it together with your parent and child, you’ll be able to discover more different bodies than now!

Picture Books Workshop

Interactive, creative, and fun storytelling for babies and toddlers led by EPONS whose members include actor & actresses, dancers, musicians etc. They will read picture books with lively action, music, and movements to introduce your little ones to the new world of picture books. Come and join!

Family Theater

A story weaved together through music and song
“A small house”

A small house that can be found anywhere.
But a wonderful guest comes to the house.
Something strange happens.
Every day is like magic.
But that’s an everyday thing.
A story about everyone’s home.

When you open the window of a small house, a small story begins.
Chirin and Delon, who have delivered children’s songs and hand games from all over the world, have created a new work that includes gentle songs and simple ensemble music.
A wonderful concert full of tricks like shadow puppets, picture-story shows, and theater.
It’s like traveling the world, but nostalgic, and we deliver the world of “small houses”, the music that is in everyone’s homes and hearts.

Let’s play together with sound and body
“Buchikippa Dontatta”

A performance of sound and body brought to you by Shinpei and Chakura.
Pantomime imitation play, hand-playing songs, rhythm play, etc.
This is a show that parents and children can participate in and enjoy together.
It’s a time of endless laughter as the two play around and play together, making you want to play!

Series : Workshop with Picture Book Authors

 

“Let’s create a friendship “Kaoshibai”! ”

Saiko Shiiki is a painter and picture book writer who draws pictures while collecting words.
We will be publishing our first picture book for small children, ”A-chan is a good friend” (Kodomo no Tomo 012/March 2024 issue, Fukuinkan Shoten).

Based on this picture book, parents and children will make a picture-story show with the faces of their friends.
After making it, we will have a presentation.
Let’s create a one-of-a-kind  “Kaoshibai” together using simple words while drawing with the materials provided by the artist.

~A Christmas Tale~

Today is Christmas Eve.
A little polar bear woke up with the feeling that someone was talking to him. Looking around there, he found a vacant hole on the meadow covered with white snow.
“What is that?”
The little polar bear approached the hole and he suddenly fell into it. Then he met someone who was…

This is a special workshop for only one day in collaboration with artists who lead regular classes.
Let’s go on an adventure with our artists, making various sounds with musical instruments and dancing by imitating someone’s movements as if you have stepped into this Christmas story.
Let’s have fun with parents and children.

Past participants and beginners are welcome.

*This program has intermissions.
*Please wear loose and comfortable clothes that are suitable to move in.
