About Zoshigaya Kodomo Station

A new space for children and families opens on 3 June 2017 in Zoshigaya, Toshima-city.

Zoshigaya Kodomo Station runs a rich and exciting program of art and culture events for children and families. They provide engaging, fun and an informal space for families to enjoy together. Children and adults can experience a diverse range of artist-led workshops. Our programs are initiatives to encourage people of all nations, abilities and areas of interest to engage with art, music, dance and play.

Notes

* Please come 15 minutes before the start time.
* Families are welcome to stay afterwards till 14:00. (There are no food shops but vending machines. You can bring your own lunch and snacks.)
   For prevent the spread of COVID-19, the free play time after the workshop is closed for the time being.
* We welcome all the families and abilities. Please let us know if you have any access requirements from the booking form or email ‘zoshigaya-ksta@children-art.net’.
* Programs are conducted in Japanese.

Family Singing Workshop

Family singing workshop led by singer and conductor Junsaku Ozu. We will sing freely and enjoyably with the piano. Even if you are shy, you don’t have to be good at singing. If you sing with clapping hands and maracas, we might be able to do an orchestra! ?

Sing and Voice Play Workshop

Sing and voice play workshop led by singer-songwriter Arisa Yokote. We will make a song by connect simple words with the artist playing the ukulele. Sometimes we also challenge overseas songs. When both children and adults play with their voices, it becomes a song before you know it!

Voice and Sound Workshop

Voice and sound workshop led by overtone musician Hiroshi Obiki. We will discover various sounds using non-musical instruments such as paper, balloons, and vinyl. Blow, tap, crumple. Why don’t you find and play interesting sounds with everyone’s ideas and curiosity? Also pay attention to the mysterious voice “Homei” played by the artist!

Percussion Workshop

Percussion workshop led by percussionist Mari Sekine. We enjoy the sounds and rhythms by touching various musical instruments such as African drums with animal skins and interesting musical instruments that can be used as sound effects. What kind of music would it be if everyone play the drums? Let’s feel the sound of everyone who gathered!

Dance Workshop ~Talk with body~

Dance workshop led by contemporary dancer Teita Iwabuchi. This family friendly and creative dance workshop will introduce the whole family to the joy and interest of dance by exploring fun movements, shape, and space.

Dance Workshop ~Play with body~

Dance workshop led by contemporary dancer Yu Kitagawa. This dance workshop will use a lot of body sensations. Touch, see, hear, feel … Let’s enjoy feeling your own body and the body of the other person while interacting with parents and children. You may find ideas to play at home!

Picture Books Workshop

Interactive, creative, and fun storytelling for babies and toddlers led by EPONS whose members include actor & actresses, dancers, musicians etc. They will read picture books with lively action, music, and movements to introduce your little ones to the new world of picture books. Come and join!

Family Theater

Czech-born traveling puppet theater
“YODAKA”

Inspired by “Yodaka no Hoshi”, one of Kenji Miyazawa’s representative fairy tales, this work has been performed in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Japan.
The story depicts the nature of life, life and death through the main character “Yodaka,” a bird. Why don’t you and your child experience the ugly but gentle sparkle of life together?

Let’s make creatures by combining cardboard parts with parents and children!

Special program

Let’s sing, play music and dance together!
This is a special workshop for only one day in collaboration with  artists who lead regular classes. Let’ try with parents and children together. We’ll welcome everyone whether you’re a participant or beginner.

There is a single line. It will take us on a wonderful journey.
What do you get when you follow the line?
What do you find when you follow the line?

A line is drawn straight, then curved in different directions, and then twirled…
And it becomes the shape of a house, a forest and creatures.
This line will change into various shapes.
What kind of things can you find?

Picture book: Let’s become a character in this story that follows the lines!
Songs Workshop: Let’s sing an original song together!
Voice and sound workshop: Let’s play various sounds with musical instruments!
Dance workshop: Let’s play imitate someone with sound!

*This program has intermissions.
*Please wear loose and comfortable clothes that are suitable to move in.
